OFFICIAL PRESENTATION OF THE EUROPEAN ENVIRONMENTAL DESIGN AWARD
The EUROPEAN ENVIRONMENTAL DESIGN AWARD BEST_ED was officially presented on 17th February at the Central de Diseño - Matadero Madrid.
Participants: Manuel Estrada, DIMAD’s chairman; Rosa Arce, scientific director of the Expert Committee of the Award; César Ruiz-Larrea, vice-chairman of ASA; Alberto Corazón, chairman of Fundación Arte y Derecho (Art and Law Foundation); Carlos Baztán, Creativity Support coordinator from the Arts Sector of Madrid City Council; and Elisa Sáinz, Chief Executive of ddi.

The speakers explained in their respective talks the reasons for the Award’s call for entries, from the point of view of the institutions they represented, and established the main objectives of this project.
The most significant details for the call were also made public: Contents, requirements and entry deadlines.
The event was attended by a hundred practitioners, students and representatives of institutions linked to this call, as well as various mass media representatives.

PRIZE AWARD CEREMONY OF THE EUROPEAN ENVIRONMENTAL DESIGN AWARD, best_ed
The Prize Ceremony of the Premio Europeo de Diseño y Medio Ambiente / European Environmental Design Award, best_ed, organised by DIMAD and the Central de Diseño de Matadero Madrid was held on Wednesday 24 March 2010, at 20:00 h . After the official Welcome address by Carlos Baztán, Creativity Support coordinator from the Arts Sector of Madrid City Council, the best_award was introduced by Manuel Estrada, DIMAD’s chairman, followed by the scientific director of the Jury, Ms Rosa Arce, from the Department of Land Organisation, Town planning and Environment of the Higher Technical School (ETS, its Spanish acronym) for Road Engineers (UPM). The ensuing speeches were given by Mr Carlos Magro, Communication and Marketing Director of the EOI Industrial Organisation School, Mr Alfonso Albacete, chairman of Fundación Arte y Derecho (Art & Law Fundation) and Mr Enrique Jiménez Larrea, General Director of IDAE (Institute for Energy Diversification and Saving)/ Ministry of Industry, Tourism and Trade.
After this, each of the winners went up to the podium to receive their Award. Both the awarded and the representatives of the different institutions highlighted the significance of promoting design, in a joint effort, as a key element for an economy and industrial production which are compatible with maintaining environmental balance.
